Resources & Encouragement for the Journey

“For in the remembering we proclaim His greatness and faithfulness and declare where our hope is found." Medicine & Motherhood

Welcome. I am a mother, pediatrician, and follower of Jesus.

This is a place to share what I’ve learned along the way. You will find stories and lessons along with practical resources to help you in your walk with God, mothering, health, and education of your children and yourself. I pray that you will find hope, encouragement, and be inspired with a renewed zeal for your journey.

Motherhood

“The fundamental mission of motherhood now is the same as it always was: to nurture, protect, and instruct children, to create a home environment that enables them to learn and grow, to help them develop a heart for God and his purposes, and to send them out into the world prepared to live both fully and meaningfully.” Sally Clarkson, Mission of Motherhood

Education

“And all the time we have books, books teeming with ideas fresh from the minds of thinkers upon every subject to which we can wish to introduce children.” Charlotte Mason, Home Education

Spiritual Growth & Formation

“To serve means to minister, to love and care for others, and to recognize in them the heart of God. A true disciple of Jesus will always go to where people are feeling weak, broken, sick, in pain, poor, lonely, forgotten, anxious, and lost. It is often hard to go to places of weakness and rejection to offer consolation and comfort. It is possible only when we discover the presence of Jesus among the poor and weak and realize the many gifts they have to offer. Therefore, spiritual formation always includes responding from the heart to the needs of the poor in a spirit of true compassion.” Henri Nouwen, Spiritual Formation: Following the Movements of the Spirit

Medicine

“We’ve been wrong about what our job is in medicine. We think our job is to ensure health and survival. But really it is larger than that. It is to enable well-being.” Atul Gawande, Being Mortal: Illness, Medicine, and What Matters in the End

“When my identity and therefore my value, worth, and purpose are found in Christ, I am free to live fully into every season. I don’t have to wish the current season away, long for days to come, or dread one more night of call. I can be a bringer of light, grace, hope, and love to those around me because I am loved, I am known, I am accepted, and I am in this place for a purpose deeper than I can comprehend.”

— Gretchen Roberts, Medicine & Motherhood
